What an honor to present this cadre of artists singers players filmmakers writers — guests all, of the Morse Code Podcast. Tonight we celebrate the one year anniversary. I invite you to attend in person at 6pm CST in Nashville by purchasing a ticket, the proceeds of which go to the Appalachia Service Project for Hurricane Helene relief. This multi-media show, with its technical demands, could only happen at the 5 Spot in East Nashville.
If you live somewhere else in the world, we’re streaming the anniversary live on my Youtube channel, here. If you catch it that way please comment your opinion. I’d like to know how it goes so I can know whether to include it in future efforts. Everything is an experiment.
The MCP is a celebration of independent creativity, of human beings drawing from inside themselves a unique vision what it means to be alive in 2024. It takes tremendous courage to do that, to show your heart to a world that might reject it, and when you see someone do it, you start to think that maybe you can do it too.
That’s getting at the heart of the Morse Code mission. I am one of these people who tries to make the world new, despite the many practical reasons why not to, and when I am near a person engaged in their own version of the daunting enterprise, I feel like I’m not crazy, I feel like I can keep going.
Central to the my philosophy is the assumption that the creative impulse is not limited to mere professional application. It’s something beating in the heart of every person alive. You have a desire to express yourself. Whether or not you are good at it is not important. You will get better, if you keep doing it.
The Morse Code Podcast is a living community of people who keep doing it. Some of us are famous, some not. It doesn’t matter. What matters is what happens during the time you spend with yourself in the privacy of your own studio front porch bedroom closet, sweating blood or laughing as you go, answering the calling to decorate your own little corner of the universe.
I realize I am incredibly naive. I don’t care. This is the way I want to spend my life. I make art and I want you to make art too.
Season two of the podcast starts this Thursday Oct 17 with special guest Mason Mecartea from Stranger Things, and more recently, Terrifier 3 which is setting some box office records right now. He’s having a moment, but as is revealed in the episode, he works at it every day, telling his own stories, bettering his craft. He is premiering his latest short at the show tonight.
Lastly, if you want to help me in my mission to inspire the whole world to take a chance on itself, consider rating the Morse Code Podcast 5 stars on Apple Podcasts and even better, write a short review; or Spotify, and follow us on YouTube and Instagram.
On behalf of our team — me, Randa, Jared, and Chelsey — thank you.
One more in the favor department: I want to make a new thumbnail for season two. This weekend I mocked up several versions and I thought one was obviously better than the rest but when I sent them to my team they chose the wrong one, lol. So I put it to you. Comment 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?
I’ll see you tonight.
