The way you, and only you, express yourself was the very reason I was moved to seek access to more of whatever you were doing. That’s also why I brag about you and introduce you to my family and friends. It’s not for purely altruistic reasons that I contribute what I can in support of a proverbially starving artist’s creative adventures. It’s for the joy of experiencing with you the bumpy thrilling ride of your beautiful life.

Exactly. As far as I can tell, every musical revolution was started by people who didn't fit the current norm. Kurt Cobain, as you mentioned, is a great example. The Beatles started by playing the music that fit the then-current norm spectacularly well, but then, to the chagrin of the record labels and producers, took things in their own direction. AI can't do what Kurt Cobain or the Beatles did--it can only fit the current or past norms, so it can only give us more of the same.

There is something else going on, however, and you and I are part of it. Your music doesn't sound like anyone else's, and there are a lot of people who appreciate that. (BTW, I first heard you when you played a house concert at my friend Vince's in Beaverton, Oregon a few years ago.) You don't fit a mold. I am in my seventies, I don't play guitar particularly well, but I have a decent singing voice, apparently. I don't sound like anyone else, and I don't even know how I would do that. I'm not a song writer, so I only do folk songs and covers of mostly older music. In other words, the music I play is not particularly original, but the way I play it is my own. But people apparently like listening to me, even to the point that I'm getting paid gigs. Not paid a lot, mind you, but paid. In my seventies! I would never get a recording contract, and I would never fill a stadium, and I have no desire to do so. I do enjoy playing for small groups of people who seem to appreciate what I do.

My point is this, the only way to keep real music alive is to keep playing it. AI will fill up all the slots on Spotify and the airwaves, and likely create the manufactured bands that will fill the stadiums, but the underground music scene will continue in bars, restaurants, house concerts and small clubs. At some point this kind of activity may even be deemed subversive (a few changes to copyright laws could do this), but it will continue none this less, even if it is done in secret locations.

Thank you for what you do!

Bravo for getting out there Patrick. Paid is paid! An an undeniable that you are doing something you are supposed to. A unique take on a known work is art indeed.

"...You are going to win. AI is cleaving the fakers from the game. .." Well stated, Korby, and not a moment too soon for this to happen. The ouroboros springs to mind. There are those who have grossly misunderstood where and who they really are and where their talents and gifts can guide them. This will hurt in some ways but, I agree, it will help artists dig deeper if they choose and there will be treasure found.

It’s a correction and I agree that it will be both painful and growthsome.
